The Philippine National Police has turned over an assortment of firearms and other crime-fighting equipment worth Php944,864.70 to the Bureau of Corrections in a simple turnover ceremony held in Camp BGen Rafael T Crame, Quezon City, Wednesday morning.
PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Police Lieutenant General Joselito Vera Cruz together with Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Olay, Director for Logistics graced the said event and personally handed the donated firearms and equipment to BuCor Director-General, Usec. Gerald Q. Bantag and Asec Milfredo Melegrito.
The donated items include 40 units of 12GA shotgun of different makes and models, 2,000 rounds 12GA shotshells, 40 units of revolver cal .38 of different makes and models, and 960 rounds Ctg. ball cal .38 was no longer included in its supply line and classified as disposable properties based on the latest Table of Equipment of the PNP.
"Under the PNP Memorandum Circular No. 2017-17 or the Revised Guidelines and Procedures in the Disposal of the Philippine National Police Property, Plant and Equipment, Transfer of Property is one of the modes of disposal. With this, we are glad to choose the BuCor as our recipient," Vera Cruz said.
The PNP has chosen the BuCor as the recipient in consideration of the need of the latter to equip its personnel, particularly the jail guards, with adequate and appropriate firearms necessary to keep peace and order, and maintain safety and security within prison premises, he added.
Meanwhile, Usec Bantag give his appreciation to the PNP under the leadership of PGen Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar for its generosity and support to the BuCor.
