Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar ordered a thorough investigation into the death of artist Bree Jonson in La Union over the weekend.
PGen Eleazar tasked the Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1, PBGen Emmanuel Peralta, to look into all the circumstances that led to the death of Jonson especially that her family wanted to know the truth on what really happened to her.
Based on the initial report, the body of Jonson was found at the Floatsam Jetsom Resort in San Juan, La Union on Saturday, September 18. Her companion and boyfriend, Julian Ongpin, told the local police that it was a case of suicide.
The local police who responded to the area seized some 12.6 grams of illegal drugs and based on the report of the local Crime Laboratory, Ongpin tested positive during the drug test.
These served as the basis for filing of the case against Ongpin but the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office ordered his release while the investigation is being conducted.
“This is but another proof that your PNP applies the law without fear or favor. Mayaman man o mahirap, patas ang pagpapatupad natin ng batas dahil hindi lang dangal ng PNP ang nakataya dito kung hindi ang pagtitiwala ng sambayanang Pilipino on the basic but important concept of rule of law,” he added.
PGen Eleazar said he had already tasked all the concerned units to coordinate to ensure the availability of Ongpin as the investigation is still on-going on the death of Jonson.
He also lauded the local PNP personnel for their quick action and response on the case.
“Nakikiramay tayo sa pamilyang naulila ni Jonson. Bilang magulang, alam kong mabigat ang inyong pinagdaraanan ngayon kaya sa pamamagitan ng patuloy naming imbestigasyon ay mabibigyan ng linaw kung ano nga ba talaga ang nangyari,” the Chief PNP said.
