Four members of a local Communist Terrorist Group operating in Western Visayas died in an encounter with police and military operatives on Tuesday while two (2) wounded rebels who were abandoned by their fleeing companions were rescued and given medical attention by the PNP.
Citing the reports of the Director of Special Action Force, Police Brigadier General Felipe R Natividad to PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar said an undetermined number of CTGs engaged Special Action Force troopers and military operatives in a 1-hour firefight in Sitio Balik Balik, Brgy. “The gunbattle lasted for 1 hour and 10 minutes that resulted to the death of the four terrorists. No casualties were reported on the government side. The PNP troops also recovered four long firearms", Eleazar reported.
PNP-SAF medics applied first aid treatment to the two wounded communist terrorists including the South West Secretary identified as Nilda Bertulano and prepared them for medical evacuation. Bertulano is the subject of a Warrant of Arrest issued by Hon. Renato Muñez, Executive Judge of RTC Branch 60 of Cadiz City for the crime of Murder.
“The wounded CPP-NPA terrorists will be given appropriate medical treatment until they can fully recover to face investigation and prosecution,” Eleazar said.

“Napag-alaman din natin na itong mga rebelde ay nagrerecruit ng mga bago nilang miyembro sa naturang lugar. Saludo ako sa ating mga pulis dahil sa matagumpay nilang operasyon laban sa mga teroristang ito, at hindi tayo titigil hangga't hindi natin sila nahuhuli at mawakasan ang pagsira sa kinabukasan ng mga kabataan at pamilya ng kanilang narerecruit," Eleazar added.
Police and military troops still at the encounter area conducting mopping-up operations while other PNP combat troops established blocking positions at the possible exit routes of the fleeing terrorists.
