A police master sargeant was arrested in an entrapment operation on Monday evening for extorting P6,000 from a PNP applicant.
PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar said that the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), led by Police Brigadier General Flynn E Dongbo arrested PMSg EDMUND OLAVIANO DELOS REYES, presently assigned at PNP Crime Laboratory Group, Camp Crame Quezon City.
According to reports, the operating units arrested DELOS REYES in an entrapment operation in a fast food chain infront of Petron Gas, Station, Colonel Boni Serrano Avenue, Bagong Lipunan, Quezon City.
Eleazar said that the suspect demanded from the victim an amount of Php6,000.00 in exchange for her assurance to be included in the final list of new batch of PNP recruits who will take oath on July 30, 2021.
Recovered from the suspect were two pcs Php1,000 peso bill, four pcs of Php1,000 boodle money, and the PNP ID of the suspect.
The arrested suspect was brought to IMEG, Headquarters, Camp BGen Rafael T Crame, Quezon City for documentation.
"Sa kabila ng mga mahigpit na paalala sa ating mga kapulisan na umiwas sa maling gawain at katiwalian ay meron pa ring iilan na sinusubok lumihis ng landas at gawin ang mali at labag sa batas. Ang ating pamunuan ay hindi titigil upang sugpuin at linisin ang katiwalian sa hanay ng ating kapulisan," Eleazar said.
"Paiimbestigahan natin ang kasong ito sapagkat ang ating PNP recruitment procedure ay dapat hindi nababahiran ng anu mang katiwalian o korapsyon upang masiguro natin ang integridad ng ating proseso at maging patas sa lahat ng mga aplikante," Chief PNP Eleazar added.
