The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to further intensify close coordination with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to halt continuing drug operations by inmates from within jail or prison walls.
This, after Cebu City Police arrested in a May 28 buy-bust operation two men, who said they were drug couriers for a Cebu City Jail detainee, and seized P6.9-million worth of shabu.
PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar said the arrest of Vencent Mayol Suplac and Giovanni Montecalvo Ambray, and their revelation that they work for a detained drug trafficker, is but proof of the deeply-rooted problem of illegal drugs in the country.
“Naumpisahan na natin ito sa Bilibid noon, lalo nating pai-igtingin ngayon kasama ang BJMP,” said PGen Eleazar, citing the strong coordination between the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) when he was still its director and the BuCor under Director General Gerald Bantag.
As NCRPO director before, PGen Eleazar provided the manpower to the BuCor in conducting greyhound operations and in guarding the New Bilibid Prisons amid doubts on the integrity of prison guards.
“Hindi natin dapat hayaan na napaglalaruan ng mga drug suspects na ito ang ating batas,” he said.
PGen Eleazar said that part of the strong coordination is the conduct of regular assessment and information-sharing among the PNP, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) the BJMP, and the BuCor to stop persons deprived of liberty or PDLs from continuously trafficking illegal drugs while in a detention facility or in prison.
PGen Eleazar also lauded the Cebu City Police for the successful operation.
“I commend the Cebu City Police for arresting two drug suspects who are said to be doing the bidding of a Cebu City jail inmate.
