Disaster response troops, equipment and supplies were prepositioned to disaster-prone areas threatened by typhoon “Nona” in Luzon and Visayas regions as OPLAN “Saklolo” went into full swing ahead of Nona’s expected landfall.
Police Director Wilfredo Franco, PNP Director for Police Community Relations and concurrent Task Group Commander alerted Regional Directors in areas threatened by typhoon “Nona” that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.
The National Headquarters Disaster Incident Management Task Group (NHQ-DIMTG) was also activated to coordinate all disaster response operations of PNP Units in areas along the path of typhoon “Nona”.
Franco also mobilized National Support Units that compose the Task Group to muster troops and resources for possible deployment to areas affected by floods, landslides and collapsed structures.
These disaster response-capable units include Special Action Force, Maritime Group, Highway Patrol Group, Police Community Relations Group, as well as the Regional Public Safety Battalions.
Meanwhile, the Chinese-Filipino Business Club Inc., headed by their President Mr. Tomas Ang, donated 200 pieces of raincoats with pants to PNP Highway Patrol Group personnel.
According to President Ang, the donation was made as a sign of giving thanks to the PNP and to the HPG due to their relentless efforts on handling traffic management along the whole stretch of EDSA.
“This donation is very timely as we expect to experience typhoon “Nona” at signal number 1 in Metro Manila. These raincoats are very helpful as our HPG personnel never stops serving the public rain or shine.” The Chief PNP said.(PNP-PIO)
